16.06.2008 Heini, Jenny & Tuomas blog post
We've really gotten our stuff together with this blog-thingie, since we're already in the third installment!
Now the record is ready except for the grand piano and mixing, right now Jonsu and Genius-Tero are going through songtapes and we (Heini, Jenny and Septidin-Stobe) sat down to write to you. This morning we sang the choir parts and did one extra song, which may be published at some later time.. And the song order is also coming together, yeah!
All kinds of natural and supernatural events have happened around here. We had the joy and honor to have as a guest the grand pipe player and unbelievable magician Troy Donockley, who charmed us both with his playing and his magics. We were blown away by both. You will hear the beautiful and ancient sound of the pipe (Low Whistle) on three songs on the new album, and it sounds great! After the whistles had been stuck on the tape, the much talked about Troy Magic Show commenced immediately, where cards appeared from all kinds of places, things and people floated, heads came off and thoughts were read. Splended. Mega.
To recovered from our bafflement, we took refuge in alcohol, and the party went on until six in the morning, by which time we were spilling thoughts about things which it might've been better not to.
The next morning we were taken by a grand inspiration and on the tape were recorded (among other things) totally fucked up piano tracks, Jorma's out of tune screeching and a little bit of Ketonen & Myllyrinne. These we then tried to painfully patch up the next day. We also went riding at Messilä, to make up for the mortification caused by the guzzling and rampantness that lasted until the morning (except for Laura and Tuoppi, who stayed behind to suffer in the evil world). So today legs are so sore, that it's nearly impossible to walk.
To actually talk about the album, that it's naturally the best so far, and especially the most varied composition. In addition to the aforementioned Celtic whistles, there's all kinds of this & that, from harpsichord to melodica and from guitar to bass. The Fourth One includes at the same time the hardest, most romantic and the hippiest material. Even the pop-prince and heavybart Homopaimen discovered a new retro gear in himself.
Tomorrow morning the mixing begins at Finnvox, with Mikko Karmila in charge. So we're almost there and feeling wild, but also a bit sad and depressed, because the journey is always more fruitful than the destination! (And from here on, everything is only black. Maybe grey for a brief moment, but mostly black.)
TOP 10 WILDEST THINGS TODAY:
1. Tiina's gourmet cooking and Petri's pro attitude (Thanks to the hosts!)
2. Ketonen & Myllyrinne
3. Tuoppi's belly shirt and too-tight strech-jeans!
4. Studer A 800 recorder
5. Instrument enthusiasm
6. Strongbow, Ardbeg (ie. Septidin), Salmari, coffee and frozen Yellow Widow
7. The Ghost of Troy and other strange ones
8. Genius-Tero's "Me ollaan homoja" & "Lick My Eggs" pieces (part of Tero's earlier recordings)
9. Mindspilling
10. Going wild
And now just "shanti, shanti, here does joga the elephant" (try to spot that on the next album... hah)
Wishing the best and hottest summer for everyone!
